As the federal government’s signature program focused on reducing infant mortality, Healthy Start is essential in helping our communities most disadvantaged children survive infancy and live longer, more productive lives. SHIELDS is one of 105 Healthy Start community based programs across the nation. Healthy Start provides outreach, prenatal and postnatal care, health education and comprehensive case management services. Healthy Start had a track record of saving lives in addition to assisting families gain better access to safe housing, medical services and living wage employment opportunities.Charlene visited Capitol Hill on Tuesday, April 1st as part of the National Healthy Start Association Spring Conference.
