SHIELDS for Families is an approved continuing education provider by the following:

SHIELDS for Families is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. SHIELDS for Families maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.

Accommodations Policy

The training facility at SHIELDS for Families complies with ADA accessibility requirements, as it is a one story building with unobstructed access to all entrances and exits. Additionally, bathrooms accommodate wheelchair access. Accommodations for individuals with visual and/or hearing impairments include appropriate use of sign language interpreters upon prior request.

If the workshop is being held at another venue, reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities as needed. Participants may contact Kim McElreath at [email protected] directly to discuss any needed accommodations.

Ethics Policy

SHIELDS is committed to offering continuing education courses to train licensees to treat any client in an ethically and clinically sound manner based upon CAMFT Code of Ethics. All selected trainers will be expected to abide by same ethical expectations. Selected instructors must be able to demonstrate that their course will train licensees to treat any client in an ethical and clinically sound manner consistent with the same code of ethics or that of their professional association. SHIELDS’ Training Administrator will review course content submitted by instructors to ensure ethical standards and met and will be addressed in the content before scheduling the training event.

Grievance Policy

SHIELDS For Families, Inc. is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the CAMFT. SHIELDS will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. While SHIELDS goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which come to the attention of the agency require intervention. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.

When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:

  1. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The CE Administrator will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
  2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the CE Administrator will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the CE Administrator will:
    1. attempt to move the participant to another workshop or
    2. provide a credit for a subsequent year’s workshop or
    3. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee

Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.

  1. If the grievance concerns SHIELDS CE program, in a specific regard, the CE Administrator will attempt to arbitrate.

Privacy and Security Policy

All information gathered from our participants is online. We host and maintain our web services in a HIPAA compliant facility. Our system is developed with dual authentication to confirm user access. Additionally all of our staff members are trained on the importance and requirement of maintaining PHI and ePHI.

We do offer online registration. Our registration process is secured with SSL encryption and all data is stored in a HIPAA compliant hosting environment. Software and security updates are implemented periodically to maintain the highest security levels.

Refunds, Cancellations, and Substitutions Policies

Participants may cancel up to 10 days before the training and will receive a full refund for of the registration fee less a $10 cancellation fee. If a participant cancels 0-10 days before the training date, no refund will be given.

A colleague may be substituted for no additional charge if notification is provided at least five (5) business days before the workshop or training event to Kim McElreath at [email protected].

SFF reserves the right to cancel this training 10 days before the event if registration requirements are not met.

Fees for continuing education certificates are non-refundable.
